Overview of Planned Maintenance

Residents of Johannesburg should prepare for a series of planned water supply interruptions due to scheduled maintenance activities. These disruptions will affect various parts of the city at different times. Below are the details of the affected areas and the maintenance schedule.

Zwartkopjes System Maintenance

Water Supply Interruptions: June 27 to July 12

From June 27 to July 12, pumping will be reduced to 83% capacity for a total of 18 days.

  • Roodepoort
  • Soweto
  • Johannesburg Central
  • Commando (Brixton, Hursthill, and Crosby)

Daleside System Maintenance

June 24 to June 25

On June 24 to June 25, pumping will be reduced to 50% for 27 hours.

Affected Areas:

  • Berea
  • Parktown
  • Hector Norris
  • Forest Hills
  • Eagles Nest
  • Alan Manor
  • Naturena
  • Crown Gardens
  • Aeroton
  • Orlando East

Specific Time Disruption

On June 24, there will be no pumping from 7 PM for a period of four hours. Thereafter, pumping will continue at 50% for 27 hours.

  • Orange Farm
  • Lawley
  • Ennerdale

Palmiet System Maintenance

July 1

On July 1, starting at 8 AM, pumping will be reduced to 60% for eight hours.

  • Midrand
  • Sandton
  • South Hills
  • Alexandra Park
  • Randjeslaagte

July 15 to July 17

From July 15 to July 17, starting at 3 AM, pumping will be reduced to 68%.

July 29

On July 29, starting at 5 AM, pumping will be reduced to 76% for 40 hours.

  • Alexandra Park
  • Randjeslaagte

Preparations and Alternative Water Supply

Last week, Joburg Water spokesperson Nombuso Shabala assured residents that arrangements for alternative water supply at strategic locations such as hospitals, clinics, schools, municipal offices, police stations, and shopping centres will be provided.

Shabalala encouraged residents to store water in preparation for the planned maintenance to mitigate the impact of the disruptions.
