A former New York police officer sentenced to life: Nicholas Tartaglione, has been sentenced to four consecutive life sentences for the brutal execution of four men in 2016.

The Crime

Execution of Four Men

In 2016, Nicholas Tartaglione suspected Martin Luna of stealing $250,000 from him. He lured Luna into a trap and then strangled him with a zip tie. Tartaglione then executed Luna’s three companions, forcing them to kneel before shooting them in the back of the head.

The victims included:

  • Martin Luna: Tortured and strangled.
  • Urbano Santiago
  • Miguel Luna
  • Hector Gutierrez

U.S. Attorney Damian Williams described the murders as “brutal and senseless,” noting that the three additional victims were killed simply for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

In April 2023, a jury convicted Tartaglione on multiple charges:

  • 11 counts of murder
  • Four counts of kidnapping resulting in death
  • One count of kidnapping conspiracy
  • One count of narcotics conspiracy

On Monday, Tartaglione received four consecutive life sentences.

Tartaglione’s attorney, Inga Parsons, has stated they will appeal the conviction, arguing that his legal counsel failed to challenge crucial evidence. A motion for a new trial was denied.
